Pasco County Animal Services is Expecting!

~ Everyone is invited to a kitten shower held by Pasco County Animal Services ~

PASCO COUNTY, FL The Pasco County Animal Services Department (PCAS) is gearing up for kitten season.  PCAS has decided to throw a kitten shower and all Pasco County residents are invited.  The shower will take place at 6:00 p.m on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in the conference room of Building B at PCAS, 19640 Dogpatch Lane, Land O’ Lakes, Florida.

Kitten season usually begins late spring and continues until early autumn.  Cats that have not been spayed or neutered reproduce and flood the shelter with homeless litters and motherless newborn felines.  A female cat can get pregnant when as young as fivemonths old and will continue to come back in heat every 1421 days until she is bred.  During this time of year, it is not uncommon to find unattended litters seemingly abandoned by their mothers.  If a motherless litter is stumbled upon, please leave the babies alone!  The mother may have left to find food and will likely return soon.  Often times, the kittens are picked up prematurely and the shelter becomes flooded with unweaned bottle babies.  When this happens, foster homes for the kittens must be found immediately so that the little ones have a better chance of survival.

Come out to the kitten shower!  Have a piece of cake, fill out an application, and learn what it takes to be a foster parent of a newborn kitten.  Foster applicant interviews and approvals will also take place during the shower.  As with any baby shower, PCAS has a registry and would appreciate any and all assistance in caring for these little ones.
